Energy Efficiency of Amplification Technologies for Ultra–Wideband Transmission

Low energy consumption has become an important requirement for telecommunication equipment. Amplification technologies for ultra–wideband transmission are compared with single-band solutions in view of their energy efficiency with a focus on the comparison of erbium–based amplifiers for C+L-band systems with the currently used C-band amplifiers.
