Compressive real-time and ultrahigh-speed single-pixel imaging by swept aggregate patterns

We present a new technique for single-pixel imaging (SPI) capable of both ultrahigh-speed image acquisition and the real-time display of reconstructed images. Our approach combines a conventional digital micro-mirror device (DMD) with an off-the-shelf motorized polygonal mirror, achieving pattern projection rates of up to 14.1 MHz while still retaining the flexibility of DMD modulation with tunable frame sizes of up to $101 \times 103$ pixels. For real-time operation, we develop a lightweight reconstruction algorithm capable of compressed sensing that is compatible with parallel computation on a graphic processing unit (GPU). We show experimental demonstrations of offline ultrahigh-speed imaging at up to 12,000 frames per second (fps) and real-time streaming video at up to 100 fps.
