Slotted Patch Excited ME Dipole Antenna for Broadband Millimeter Wave and Satellite Applications

A broadband slotted patch antenna excited Magne-to- Electric dipole (ME-dipole) antenna is proposed in this paper for millimeter wave and satellite communication. The ME-dipole is placed on a coupled-feed cavity-backed slotted patch antenna. The slotted patch antenna acts as both a radiator and a ground for the ME-dipole. By combining the ME-dipole and the slotted patch antenna, a -10dB impedance bandwidth covering over 22.86-44.35 GHz (63.9

) is realized. The pattern of the antenna element remains stable throughout this bandwidth. Based on this antenna element, a 4x4 single linearly polarized (LP) array is designed and tested. Measured results show that a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 51.2%, and a peak gain of 20.4 dBi with a 3dB gain bandwidth over 40.6% are realized.
