X-Band Phased Vivaldi Array with Low-Scattering Characteristic

A low-scattering X-band phased Vivaldi array antenna is proposed in this paper. Absorbing material is employed to reduce the scattering under cross-polarized incident waves. Besides, the impedance matching of the Vivaldi element is improved by the matching layer, and the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) at broadside radiation is below 1.25 in most of X-band which, suggests the antenna can absorb most of co-polarized incident waves. Therefore, the in-band low-scattering characteristic is achieved under arbitrary polarized incident waves. Moreover, the array antenna realizes ±60° beam scanning in both E/H planes in X-band. The low-scattering and wide-angle scanning properties of the proposed antenna are both verified by the measured results in the experiment.
