Design and Implementation of MPPT for Solar Powered BLDC Water Pumps with Water Flow Rate Parameters

Nowadays, most water pumping systems are connected with PLN Grid or diesel-powered. However, in remote areas it is very difficult to get electricity from PLN. The application of a standalone solar-powered BLDC water pump system is an attractive solution to be applied in remote areas, which do not yet have a power grid. BLDC motor was chosen for the water pump drive because it has a long lifetime, easy maintenance, high reliability, high starting torque, high speed, and high efficiency. In its application, the energy converted by photovoltaic is non-linear, causing the resulting efficiency to be quite low. In this study, the design and implementation of MPPT for solar-powered BLDC water pumps with water flow rate parameters will be carried out. MPPT will track the MPP point of the water flow rate parameter so that it can produce the water flow rate at the optimal point and get maximum power. In the simulation and implementation results, the boost converter has an efficiency of 94.93% when simulated and 88.4% when implemented with a load of 10-100% of the capacity obtained boost converter efficiency of 88.4 %. For MPPT efficiency with water flow rate parameters in the BLDC water pump system has an efficiency when simulated of 88.18% and when implemented of 85.35%. When the irradiation conditions are fixed, the MPPT output discharge in the BLDC water pump system has an error of the predetermined setpoint value when simulated by 0.55% and when implemented by 2%. When irradiation conditions are not fixed, the MPPT output discharge in the BLDC water pump system has the largest error value against the reference value during irradiation conditions of 499 W/m^2 with a value of 4.1% and when implemented at 6.3%. The BLDC Solar Water Pump system using MPPT with water flow rate parameters has better energy efficiency, ripple voltage, output discharge, and total pumpable water compared to MPPT with the P&O algorithm. It’s just that tracking to the MPP point of the MPPT with the water flow rate parameter is longer than the MPPT with the P&O algorithm.
