A 3D Printed Wearable Electromyography Wristband

Patients who have experienced hand amputations are often faced with high costs when seeking prosthetic hands that provide human-like functionality. To address this issue, an affordable surface electromyography (EMG) wristband has been developed to balance the quality and cost of prosthetic devices. The goal is to enhance the control of low-cost prostheses and make them more effective for patients. The EMG wristband device consists of several flexible serpentine electrodes, one EMG sensor, and a double-sided printed circuit board (PCB) for muscle movement detection. It was shown that the EMG signals collected accurately reflected finger movements through signal processing. Additionally, the correlation between signal intensity and hand-gripping forces at various levels was also demonstrated. The creation of this EMG wristband has the potential to drive advancements in signal-controlled prosthetic fields. By providing an affordable solution to patients, this technology may enhance their quality of life and increase their accessibility to prosthetic devices.
