Decentralized Power Management in Multi BESS-PV Based Charging Infrastructure for EV With SoC Balancing

With the rapid expansion of electric vehicles (EVs), technology related to EV charging must also be developed. This article presents a decentralized power management scheme (DPMS) for a grid-interactive off-board charging station (CS) powered by PV and multi-energy storage devices. The key advantage of the proposed DPMS is that it simplifies the integration of additional storage systems and renewable energy sources while lowering system complexity. A line-compensated P-V droop control is utilized to prioritize power sharing among the several micro sources during the DC bus’s excess/deficit power mode. With the multi-battery storage systems, the front-end bidirectional converter transfers power between the DC bus and the utility grid using line-compensated droop regulation. The proposed framework uses the power-sharing rule depending on the battery's state-of-charge (SoC) to extend battery life and boost the power support durability at CS. Moreover, it reduces the current stress of the batteries. Furthermore, It provides ancillary services such as harmonic reduction, utility reactive power support, and power support to CS's auxiliary load during grid islanding. DC bus voltage regulation is tested through various PV source power variations and load changes during the grid's interactive and autonomous modes. The proposed method's feasibility and effectiveness have been validated through detailed simulation and experimental studies.
