Design of Modified VI -CFAR and Implementation on Zynq

The performance of the traditional variability index constant false alarm rate (VI-CFAR) algorithm will degrade when there are interference targets in both the leading and lagging reference windows. To solve the problem, this paper draws on the quality of logarithmic detector to utilize logarithmic data to execute the smallest-of CFAR (SO-CFAR), to propose a modified VI-CFAR. The performance of MVI-CFAR is evaluated with simulated and trial data. Among them, the processing of the trial data is realized based on Zynq, and the overall scheme of radar data reading, writing and processing is innovatively designed, whose effectiveness and processing accuracy meet the requirements. Experimental results show that MVI-CFAR has a stable anti-interference and false alarm control capability in the multi-target and clutter edge environment respectively, proving to be a robust detector. It can also be effectively used for sea surface target detection, which shows certain engineering value.
