Detection of Human Breathing behind L-Shaped Corner by Using mmWave FMCW Radar

Radar detection of human vital signs in the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) region suffers from serious multipath effects. A scheme for detecting human breathing in the NLOS region behind an L-shaped corner by using millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar is proposed. Based on an on-site survey of the NLOS region with a human in it, radar echoes can be analyzed to establish the multipath models of radar signal propagation and localize the human target in the NLOS region. After preprocessing and denoising of the radar echoes, the human breathing signal can be extracted accurately.
