Application of Inverse Fluidized Bed Reactor for Removal of Selenium Compounds: A Mini Review

(Se) is a metal that is disseminated into various environmental compartments both by human and natural processes. It is often released as the hazardous elements selenate and selenite. The removal of selenium compounds from wastewater is a significant challenge due to their toxic effects on the environment and human health. In this study, an inverse fluidized bed reactor (IFBR) was evaluated as a potential method for removing selenium compounds from wastewater. The performance of the IFBR was assessed by measuring the removal efficiency of selenate, selenite, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the influent and effluent wastewater. The results showed that the IFBR was able to remove 94% of selenate and reduce COD significantly. These findings were compared with previously published research, indicating that the IFBR is a more effective method for removing selenate compared to other treatment methods. These results demonstrate the potential of the IFBR as a promising technology for the treatment of wastewater containing selenium compounds. Further research is needed to optimize the IFBR process and scale up the technology for practical applications in the industry.
