A Slotted Peano-Type Fractal Based Highly Miniaturized Substrate Integrated Waveguide Dual-Mode BPF for Wireless Communication Systems

A miniaturized substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) band pass filter (BPF) based on fractal geometry is introduced in this paper. The proposed filter is designed by etching a slot on the top layer of the structure base on a Peano-type fractal. The size of the filter was miniaturized by applying the Peano-type fractal so that the filter was made to resonate at a frequency of 2.82 GHz instead of 10 GHz. The proposed filter exhibits two transmission poles within its passband, which are observed at frequencies of 2.77 GHz and 2.9 GHz. The filter’s boundaries are approximately equivalent to 0.572$\times$ 0.589$\lambda \mathrm{g}^{2}$. The insertion loss (IL) associated with this technique is 0.53 dB, while the fractional bandwidth has been calculated to be 19.43%. A substrate of Rogers RO4003C, with a relative dielectric constant of 3.5, a loss tangent of 0.0027, and a thickness of 0.2032 mm.
