Electromagnetic Environment in a Stationary Ship

Modern naval ships contain large number of RF transmitters and receivers operating at different frequency bands in close proximity due to limited space availability. Most of the antennas used for transmission and reception encounter electromagnetic scatterer in their near field. The switching devices used above-deck use pollutes the naval electromagnetic (EM) environment. The situation aggravates with the increasing demand of transmitter with higher power and receiver with superior sensitivity. However, reliable and concurrent operation of several communication gadgets in naval operation are essential. This obviously impose challenges to the EMC engineers. The objective of the present study is the electromagnetic field strength survey in a stationary naval ship deployed for coast guard patrolling. In this manuscript we presents the measurement results from an comprehensive electromagnetic field survey in a naval ship. Supporting measurement results are also presented.
