Depression Detection from Social Media Platforms: A Systematic Literature Review

today, there is an increased risk of premature death by mental disorders primarily caused by depression. Depression causes suicidal thoughts, resulting in severe disability in daily life. Mental illnesses vary making it difficult for psychiatrists to detect them early enough to provide proper treatment before it's too late. Social media venues became the voice of people's everyday routines, which expands the use of Internet data to detect their mental problems. This research is conducted as a System Literature Review (SLR). It is established for the purpose of locating and recognizing the resources that are relevant in depression detection from social media platforms to shed light on the answers to a series of research inquiries. From January 2016 to October 2021, article searches in six databases were completed with search strings and filters. The result was 35 articles matching the inclusion criteria. We gained insights into the most effective approach in depression detection to achieve the highest accuracy. Furthermore, the shortcomings of current techniques are underlined.
