Air Vent with Non-uniform Cross Section for Improved EMI Shielding and Air Flow

The efficient cooling of a system while simultaneously shielding against unwanted electromagnetic energy is a crucial design consideration for air-vents on a system chassis. In this paper, the investigation focuses on the use of air vents with non-uniform cross sections to improve the shielding effectiveness (SE) and air resistance performance. Based on the Bernoulli's principle, several cases of air vent with different non-uniform cross section types were modeled, and both simulation data and measurement results show the improvement in EMI shielding effectiveness and pressure drop of air flow.
