Teaching Induction and Deductive Reasoning

Discrete mathematics, which includes proof by induction tends to be a difficult subject for many computer science students, especially proof by induction. I have had some success in teaching this subject and I wish to share my experience with others, in the hope that my observations on the subject will prove useful. I begin by giving a basic “what do I do next?” approach to inductive proofs. I then show that induction can be used deductively to obtain new information.
