IoT Healthcare System based on ESP32 for Smart Home

Seniors living alone face various health and safety risks, which can often require prompt emergency assistance. Thankfully, advancements in technology have enabled several assistive devices to help monitor and support seniors living independently. In the paper a healthcare system based on IoT, mainly Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), specifically, ESP32 for smart nursing home is presented. The core of the system is a BLE gateway, which services three components, smart pillow for body temperature and presence, wrist-worn watch to detect fall, and a pulse oximeter to measure heart rate and SpO

, which then transmits the encrypted data to MQTT Broker, based on the protocol, all the authorized subscriber can get notice of anomaly in real-time. Experiments show that the system is able to accurately and promptly notify the results. Such a low-costs and simple-architecture system can be deployed in nursing home or house of senior easily and provide quick response.
