Design of an Automatic Hybrid Battery-Powered Solar Box Cooker

In this paper, the researchers were able to design a hybrid solar box cooker wherein a battery is used to power the heating coil when sunlight is not enough, or when it is nighttime already. Because the solar box cooker alone is not effective enough, a hybrid solar box cooker will be designed, integrated with a control system, while a Solar panel will be used to charge the battery. A control system was also developed where the timer and temperature can be set, and the system will automatically turn off the heating coil when it reaches the maximum temperature set to avoid overheating of the solar box cooker. Water and potatoes were boiled, and eggs and bacon were fried upon testing. The results of the experiments show that the hybrid solar box cooker is the most effective method to cook food with. The average efficiency of the solar box cooker acting alone, heating coil acting alone, and hybrid solar box cooker were 5.47%, 22.35%, and 40.24%, respectively.
