A New Optimization Approach for Hybrid LDM-NOMA and FeMBMS-OMA in 5G Cellular Broadcasting

In this paper, a new approach for 5G broadcast optimization deployment is considered. We propose a novel hybrid of layered division multiplexing with non-orthogonal multiple access (LDM-NOMA) and further evolved multimedia broadcast multicast service with orthogonal multiple access (FeMBMS-OMA). The multi-user transceiver architecture of the broadcast service provider (BSP) works in such a way that the former LDM uses the latter FeMBMS as a cooperation layer. Jointly power and sub-carrier allocation are investigated to maximize system performance. We will define a new utility function to optimize resource allocation depending on the sum rate and bit error rate (BER). This utility function can depict the trade-off between FeMBMS-OMA and LDM-NOMA. Service selection is done using binary factor radio access technology. A framework is proposed that jointly maximizes the weighted sum rate and minimizes the total BER for iterative resource allocation problems. The proposed scheme provides the minimum required outage probability rate for low-layer (LL), upper-layer (UL), and middle-layer (ML) users. To solve the power allocation, the broadcast water-filling algorithm (BWA) is localized. Simulation results show that the proposed hybrid method provides better performance than individual OMA and NOMA in terms of achievable sum rate and BER.
