Non-Coupled Inductors for Dual-Buck and Differential-Buck Single-Phase Inverters

The objective of this paper is to enhance the magnetic utilization and power density of dual-buck and differential-buck single-phase inverter topologies using non-coupled inductors. Since the use of conventional coupled inductors is not possible due to the freewheeling characteristics of the power transitors and diodes, both inductors must be magnetically decoupled. Existing work is based on the use of two toroidal cores and therefore does not offer a significant advantage over two discrete inductors regarding magnetic core volume. This paper addresses this drawback and presents a novel single-core approach for a non-coupled inductor in order to achieve a higher magnetic utilization using standard E-shaped cores.
