Chance Constrained Optimization in Active Distribution Network considering Virtual Power Lines

The proliferation of distributed renewable energy resources (RESs) causes several voltage issues and line overloading. Upgrading existing lines or increasing additional lines are the traditional approach to overcome these problems. As an alternative approach is to use energy storage units (SUs) to connect between the two grids called virtual power lines (VPLs). The optimal power flow (OPF) problem can be solved by converting the chance constraint into the second order cone constraint. Compared with traditional hard constraints, chance constraints can achieve trade-off between voltage range satisfaction and network loss minimization. Two modified IEEE 33 bus systems with different consumer units were utilized as the test system, and two cases – hard constraints and chance constraints- were conducted for the simulation to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
