Cyberspace Knowledge Base for Key Terrain Identification

Key terrain represents any locality, or area, the seizure or retention of which affords a marked advantage to either combatant. Identifying key terrain is to search for places that have a decisive impact on the results, which is the premise of the application of key terrain. While key terrain enjoys many interesting real-life applications, existing research on key node discovery fails to consider the properties of nodes, and hence may not suffice to provide a satisfactory solution. In this paper, we construct the Cyberspace Knowledge Base to describe the elements in cyberspace, thus identifying the key terrain. Firstly, we establish the knowledge system of the Cyberspace Knowledge Base, including the core architecture, the common architecture, and concepts of key terrain. Secondly, the knowledge system is formally modeled as an ontology, including the core architecture of the knowledge system and the identification rules of key terrain. Finally, the representation and reasoning of data based on Local Area Network(LAN) verify the consistency of ontology and its feasibility of identifying key terrain in cyberspace. Cyberspace Knowledge Base automatically completes the knowledge of nodes in cyberspace, thus realizing the identification of key terrain. The analysis of key terrain based on ontology can not only provide a basis for the strategic decision but also help a system administrator focus scarce resources to defend his network all the way to enhance cyberspace security.
