Enhancing Physicochemical and Dielectric Properties of Palm Oil-Natural Fiber Blends Through Varying Preparation Methods

This study aims to analyze the effect of preparation methods on the electrical and chemical properties of palm oil-natural fiber blends. Refined, bleached, and deodorized palm oil (RBDPO) is used and mixed with rice husk (RH) that has been refined and sieved to 63 micrometers. Two types of samples with the same concentration are prepared. The first sample is prepared by first stabilizing the temperature of the hot RBDPO to room temperature before it is mixed with RH and sonicated. The second sample is prepared where RH is immediately mixed with the hot RBDPO and is not sonicated. The breakdown voltage (BDV) test is performed following the guidelines specified in IEC 60156, using the Megger OTS100AF oil tester. The obtained data is subsequently analyzed using the Weibull statistical method to evaluate the distribution of the BDV in the sample. The dielectric response at various frequencies is examined over a range of 102 -105 Hz. The moisture-absorbing characteristics of RH in the mixture are assessed using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. A notable enhancement in both the mean BDV and dielectric permittivity of the second sample was observed. Data analysis shows that this could be due to moisture absorbing properties of RH in the mixture of the second sample is superior.
