Design of a solar thermal powered system for electricity generation and water desalination

The limited availability of clean water resources in Gaza strip referred to the increase of the salinity of groundwater due to pumping and unbalanced consumption, the severe shortage of electricity. Thus, the proposed work is to use solar energy to generate electricity and distilled water for drinking or agricultural improvement. System was designed from parabolic solar trough and coupled with a steam turbine with a dc generator and custom designed distillation device (solar still-single effect active system). The incoming solar radiation from the sun is focused and concentrated onto a receiver pipe using a parabolic trough, heating the incoming water, then the pure water turns into high pressure steam, the steam with high energy flows and hits the impulse turbine via nozzle, turbine convert potential energy to kinetic energy for generating electricity by DC Generator, then the exhaust steam with low energy that remaining after the turbine is take place at heat exchanging process in the solar still for increasing impure water temp. to make evaporation process as quick as possible, that’s guarantee process efficiency, ultimately, the steam after H.E get back liquid and return to the water source as a close cycle system.
