Array Design for Automotive MIMO Radar Sensors in D-Band

In this paper, the design of a Multiple Input – Multiple Output (MIMO) array for automotive applications in the D-band is presented. The spacing between MIMO elements in both x and y direction can be adjusted in order to set the angular resolution as well as the unambiguous field of view (FOV) for a given number of channels in the system. Thus, both transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) arrays have to be designed in a way that meets the requirements of the system. Properly matched characteristics of the single antenna elements reduce the effect of grating lobes caused by increased spacings. Simulation results display the effects of the array design on its far field pattern.
