Twitter Mining and Analysis of Traffic Conditions in India

In this paper, we address the growing concern of traffic violations in India caused by the increasing number of vehicles on the road and rising accidents and fatalities. To tackle this issue, we suggest the use of social media platforms, particularly Twitter, as a potential tool for identifying and analyzing traffic violations. Our approach involves leveraging the data available on the official Twitter handles of traffic police departments to develop a dataset of tweets related to traffic incidents and violations in four Indian metropolitan cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The Delhi and Mumbai dataset is then used to train machine learning algorithms to identify Traffic Jams and Traffic Violations. As a future scope, using these results one can devise effective methods for quick identification and prevention of traffic violations in metropolitan cities. Our ultimate goal is to provide transportation authorities with new tools and insights for improving road traffic safety in India.
