Assessment of Operational Reserve Requirement Resulting from Wind Power use in the Electric Power System of Kosovo

This paper addresses the assessment of the impact of energy from renewable energy sources on the demand for operational reserves. Generation from wind farms and photovoltaic plants is expected to grow rapidly in Kosovo in the coming years. This study highlights the impact that energy production from these sources will have on system balancing and the demand for operational reserves. The results show the specific trends that renewable generation from solar and especially from wind has in increasing the imbalances. Determining the necessary reserves taking into account the variability and uncertainty of the generation from renewable sources will contribute to the operation of the system in accordance with the required standards. This study provides valuable information for energy operators and planners regarding the dimensioning of balancing reserves as a result of the continuous development of renewable energy generation in Kosovo and similar regions.
