Design of an Electronic System for Control of PV-Powered Irrigation Processes

In this study is presented the design of an electronic system for control of irrigation processes. It is powered by an autonomous PV installation with a battery storage. The electronic system is organized by a master control unit, which collects data about some soil parameters from numerous IoT sensors, as well data from a weather station and the inverter. It controls a water pump and water valves with the use of relays. The decision-making process is implemented using fuzzy logic. It relies on three input parameters: the soil moisture, the solar radiation and the air temperature. The output of the algorithm is the irrigation time required. It is also planned to enhance the decision making with additional input data about the produced PV energy and the available energy in the battery storage, as well as with the necessity for application of fertilizers.
