Low-cost tester for start-up and hold-up verification of electronic converters

The paper presents an economically efficient solution that can be used alongside conventional laboratory power supply units in order to test switch-mode power supplies inrush current handling and hold-up time. The solution provides fast switch-on and off times with the high dv/dt for testing inrush current handling and programmable turn-off times for testing hold-up times. The suggested topology acts as an upgrade to existing laboratory equipment and can to some extend replace complex and expensive power supplies that have the aforementioned testing capability integrated. The proposed topology is tested and verified where some of the most notable results are presented.
