Time-Efficient Method for Designing Uncorrelated Platform-Integrated MIMO Antennas

In this letter, a time-efficient and practical method is proposed to design uncorrelated multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) antennas on a predefined platform automatically. Through theoretical derivations based on characteristic mode theory, correlation between antennas is represented by the feeding vectors and current distributions of the structure. Guidelines are then provided for designing uncorrelated multiantennas step by step. Given the structure of the antenna platform and the excitation of the first antenna, the feeding of the second antenna can be calculated numerically following the guidelines, which can provide the least correlation with the first antenna. th antenna can be designed, taking into account its correlations with all the existing antennas. This way, a decorrelated multiantenna system can be designed systematically. The proposed method is time-efficient, and it is suitable for any platform-integrated MIMO antenna systems.
