Shaping of Flat-Topped Element Patterns in Arrays of Coupled Multimode Waveguides of Square Cross Section

The paper presents a linear phased array antenna comprising finite number of coupled multimode waveguides of square cross section. The waveguide design that allows increasing effective area of the array element is proposed. The array element parameters optimization using 3D modeling software is carried out with the aim of sector element pattern shaping. The results characterizing the effectiveness of the proposed approach are given, as well as the impact of the array edges on the element pattern shape is examined.
