Voltage and Frequency Control in Diverse Source Power Systems under Cascade Controller with TCSC and SMES Devices

This paper introduces the suitability of a new cascade proportional-integral and integral-double derivative-filter (CC-PI-IDDF) controller for the control of voltage and frequency in interconnected power systems (IPS). The IPS of the multi-area diverse source power system (MADSPS) model of combined load frequency control and automatic voltage regulation (CLFC-AVR) is analyzed to the step load perturbation (SLP) of 10% on area-1. The CC-PI-IDDF is optimized with the newest methodology of the sooty tern algorithm (STA) whose supremacy is showcased with other algorithms. However, the significance of AVR in coupling with the LFC of MADSPS is demonstrated. Further, the supplementary control mechanism of Thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) is enacted with the tie-line and SMES devices are integrated with the control areas is adopted. The MADSPS dynamic behavior revealed the improvement in system behavior with the TCSC-SMES mechanism.
