Study on Performance of 100KW Grid-Connected Rooftop Solar Power Generation at BCE Bhagalpur, India

At present when the whole world is reeling under extreme levels of pollution, India has started investing rigorously in expanding its renewable energy generation capacity. Bihar being one of the most populous and power deficit regions in the country has also undertaken the job of expanding the horizons of its renewable energy generation through Bihar Renewable Energy Development Authority (BREDA). BREDA has installed a 100kW Grid-connected solar power plant at Bhagalpur College of Engineering (BCE), Bhagalpur located in the eastern Bihar. This paper has discussed the design layout, procedure and economics of the 100kW power plant installed at BCE Bhagalpur. The plant is expected to generate almost 135,000 kWh per annum and keeping this and the losses in mind it will lead to reduction of about 75-80% of electricity bill of BCE Bhagalpur. By the end of 5 years, the plant will pay back the investment done on the installation and from sixth year it will start generating profit for the college. Ultimately this plant will pave way for further infrastructure expansion in the college like EV charging station, new academic and co-curricular buildings, etc. Hence this paper has tried to throw some light on the benefits of solar power plants which can prove useful for further capacity expansion of the solar power plant at BCE Bhagalpur and other government buildings in Bihar.
