Butterfly Optimisation of MPPT for Solar PV under Shading Conditions

The most prevalent and cleanest source of solar-derived electricity is provided by photovoltaic systems. The P-V and I-V characteristics of the Photovoltaic (PV) system show how several peaks are created when there is partial shadowing. Because of various peaks, variations, and sluggish power tracking speeds, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms are unable to reach the worldwide peak power. The Butterfly Optimisation Algorithm (BOA), a unique metaheuristic method for extracting global maxima from shaded panels, is presented in this paper. The main objective is to use BOA to quickly and accurately trace the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of the Solar Photovoltaic system under irregular shading situations. For each PV array configuration, BOA-based simulation results for three alternative shading patterns (such as 4P1S, 4P3S, and 4P2S) are tested against the PSO, Cuckoo Search, and Grey Wolf Optimisation algorithms. A PV module, DC-DC Boost Converter, and the load are all included in the modelling of the PV array in MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show that the BOA approach is more effective and has a faster tracing speed when the various algorithms are contrasted to the suggested algorithm.
