Occurrence and protection of cable joint faults

Nowadays, electric energy accounts for an increasingly high proportion of energy in the society, and power cables have become indispensable transmission equipment to a certain extent. With the continuous increase of cable terminal joints and intermediate joints, potential cable insulation defects often occur. This will cause cable accidents to occur, triggering the tripping of Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCBs) on the transmission system. Therefore, it is of great theoretical significance and engineering value to study the heating mechanism and working condition of wire and cable joints caused by insulation defect arc and take effective prevention and control measures. In this paper, the occurrence and protection of insulation defect fault arc of cable joint is studied by using simulation control method. The temperature field distribution of power cable under the insulation defect arc caused by insulation defect is simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics software. The temperature field distribution at measuring point of cable is simulated and the influence of related parameters on the temperature field of cable insulation defect arc is analyzed. It is proved that the insulating material of fire blanket has good protection performance to the insulation defect fault arc of power cable.
