Enhanced and Secured Smart Home using Z-Wave Technology

There was a time when every simple task of our daily life required human intervention, but in the modern era we depend on smart devices to ease our life and do our work with no or minimal human intervention. One of the technologies which save time and provide additional comfort and security in a person’s day-to-day life is Smart Home Technology. A Smart Home is nothing but a home with intelligence that allows it to control devices and appliances through a semi-automated platform with the help of active internet connectivity. Though there are many products and providers of Smart Home tech, they lack in terms of reliability, scalability, and security. Smart Home technology relies majorly on a strong wireless communication system rather than a wired system such that the primary controller and the devices/appliances can communicate with each other while the system still remains clean and not clumsy for the outside world. The majority of the existing products adopted generic wireless protocols like BLE and Zigbee, but very few made use of Z-Wave which is a specific protocol made for Smart Home and it is application specific. This project aims to bring out a reliable, stable and secure Z-Wave Smart Home controller which will be capable of connecting to the internet over three types of Technologies namely ethernet, Wi-Fi and cellular, receiving commands and sending responses to the hosted server using MQTT protocol, control the Z-Wave mesh network and communicate with the sensors and actuators in secure manner.
