Double Layered Hexagonal Slot Antenna for Breast Cancer Detection using Microwave Imaging

Breast cancer is a dreadful disease prevalent among most women these days. The cause of these is still a mystery, some believe that this might be due to the lifestyle followed in this era. Mammography, a screening methodology using X-ray has been used from the earlier days to detect cancerous tissue, but this screening method has the limitation of time consumption and the physicians worked towards a better alternative technology. Microwave imaging is a reliable method for screening tumor tissue from normal breast tissues. This paper proposes a patch antenna model to detect the tumorous tissues in the breast. The model has been designed and simulated in HFSS and is compatibly assessed using the dielectric properties of the material. A tumor is designed inside the phantom model, value of SAR is compared for different notable positions of the tumor and is compared with the values obtained in the absence of tumor in the phantom model, thus concluding the presence of tumor. The position of tumor can also be found by comparing the SAR values of different layers of the tissues. The model is designed in such a way as to detect multiple tumor cells.
