Design of Low SAR Zipper Antenna for Bio-Medical Applications

In advanced technology, the need for tele-medical applications increases with the use of wearable antennas. Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) reduction is a key research area in wearable antennas. This paper aims to design a zipper antenna with a confront back plane radiator operating at 2.4 GHz with reduced SAR. The proposed antenna consists of multiple interlocking conductive strips forming a tightly coupled structure. Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software is used to design the antenna. The simulation results show that the proposed antenna design achieves a significant reduction in SAR levels (25-35%) on comparing with a traditional monopole antenna. The impact of the antenna's dimensions on the SAR reduction is also observed. Increasing the antenna’s width decreases the SAR level to 0.17 W/kg with a gain of 5.802 dbi.
