A Safety Monitoring System for Mining Workers using LORA

Today, maintaining the safety of mine workers is a major challenge. The health and lives of miners are defenceless against a few fundamental problems, such as the working environment and its long- term effects. To increase profitability and lower mining costs while also taking miner safety into account, a creative and innovative methodology is needed. A section of the proposed system is dedicated to monitoring the status of mineworkers, and a separate section is dedicated to overall monitoring. Particulate matter and gas emissions, including those of sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and others, are the main causes of air pollution in the mine worker area. To keep track of the different types of smoke levels in the mine, we are using two smoke sensors. The concentration of hazardous gases is monitored using semiconductor gas sensors. The microcontroller will buzz the user and send the information to the monitoring section via the Lora WAN module, where it will be uploaded to the webpage via IoT, if any of the smoke sensor values go above the threshold range. For long- distance networks, Lora WAN is a multi-point and media access control (MAC) protocol. It makes it possible for low-power devices to connect remotely and distantly with IoT applications. Lora WAN has a longer range and operates at lower radio frequencies. Lora WAN is a low- power wide area networking (LPWAN) protocol based on LoRa Technology. Lora WAN is important for maximizing LPWAN’s range, battery life, robustness, and affordability. There are numerous underground mining- related factors that can lead to miners falling and losing consciousness. In order to address this problem, the system sends a crisis alert via the Lora WAN module to the supervisor whenever someone falls somewhere for any reason.
