Slotted Microstrip Patch Antenna with DGS for Brain Tumor Detection

The primary objective of this research is to develop a small slotted microstrip patch antenna with a defected ground plane that can effectively detect brain tumors. The proposed antenna design utilizes an FR4 substrate with a thickness of 1.6mm and a relative permittivity of 4.4. The performance of the antenna is comprehensively evaluated by analyzing various parameters such as radiation pattern, return loss, VSWR, surface current, gain, and directivity. This thorough analysis provides valuable insights into the antenna's characteristics and assists in determining its suitability for efficient brain tumor detection. Subsequently, a brain phantom model is created to facilitate the detection process, both with and without a tumor. The brain phantom is designed as a square structure with partial semi-cylindrical cuts on each side of the antenna and a triangular cut on the top layer. CST (Computer Simulation Technology) is employed to simulate this model. By combining the antenna with the brain phantom in the simulation, the S-parameter, Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), and H-field are investigated and evaluated to observe the changes when a tumor is present or absent.
