RAE M2129 S-Shaped Air Intake CFD Analysis Using OpenFOAM

RAE M2129 S-Shaped Air Intake Geometry was obtained from open sources. Coarse, medium, and fine grids were generated to conduct a mesh dependency study. Mesh properties were compared, and air intake CFD analysis was performed by using open-source software, which is OpenFOAM. A mesh dependency study has been done, and convergency graphs have been drawn. The obtained results were compared with the experimental and simulation results in the literature. The mass flow rate, mach number in the AIP, pressure recovery, and DC60 parameters were compared to the existing experimental and numerical ones, validating the present results. Duct wall static pressure distribution was compared with the existing experimental results and presented as a graph. Pressure recovery at the AIP and velocity contours at the symmetry plane were presented. The results obtained showed that the average static pressure at the AIP, total pressure recovery, mass flow rate, and DC60 values have around 0-2% error according to the experiment. Also, the mach number at the AIP has a 3-5% error, according to the experiment. When these results are compared with the other RANS results, it can be seen that the results are good.
