Provision of Flexibility Services to the Distribution System Operator by Local Energy Communities

This paper presents the participation of a Local Energy Community (LEC) in the provision of upward and downward reserves to the distribution system operator. The resources considered are a photovoltaic plant, a battery energy storage system, and flexible and interruptible loads. Photovoltaic generation, energy prices, and local community consumption are considered with uncertainty. Four case studies were analyzed considering the prices of the upward and downward reserve regulation market. The results show that the local energy community receives the greatest benefit from participating as a provider of flexibility services.
