SVSC Controlled Motion Sensor Free Solar Powered BLDCM Drive

Ideally solar powered brushless DC (PMBLDC) permanent magnet type motor drive based pumping application uses Hall Effect based position sensors and a speed sensors for position and speed estimation. The use of position sensor (Hall sensor) for estimation of position and speed sensor for proper maximum power tracking increases the instability of the system along with the cost and size of the overall system. Along with this, the sensors are ambient sensitive too. This drives the necessity to eliminate those sensors and use minimum number of voltage and current sensors for motion senor free position and speed estimation. This paper aims to develop a single voltage sensor and a single current sensor (SVSC) controlled motion and speed sensor free algorithm. This SVSC driven control strategy gives a comprehensive solution towards the motion sensor elimination and speed estimation for flawless tracking of solar maximum power. Additionally, the magnetic locking condition in position sensor free mode during starting is also taken care here. The control strategy is parametrically robust and system independent. Besides, pump's output flow control is integrated for maximum utilization and seamless tracking of the available solar power. Effectiveness of the developed control is verified using the experimental results from laboratory test bench.
