Inductive interference from HVAC power lines on metallic pipelines using FLARE - Finite eLement Analysis foR Electromagnetics

In this work, we describe the implementation of FLARE - a fully vectorized Matlabsolver based on the finite element method, FLARE is (mainly) dedicated to stationary and quasi-stationary electromagnetic problems. These latter can be expressed via both time-harmonic and unsteady formulations. In addition, FLARE allows one to obtain the time-response of linear problems using an inverse Laplace approach. We describe the implementation of the code, focusing on the most time-critical operations, such as the assembly of the global stiffness matrix and load array. We also discuss the development of an unsteady quasi-stationary solver, which we use as a validation and benchmark tool for the inverse Laplace solver. The two approaches are used to study the inductive component of AC interference caused by power lines in buried metallic pipelines.
