Study of the Grounding Behavior of Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS-Type Substations) Submitted to Lightning

This paper investigates the grounding grids behavior of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) when submitted to atmospheric discharges. Supported by computational simulation and based on real data from outdoor GIS-Type substations, two case studies are explored in order to evaluate the behavior of the grounding impedance on a transient analysis. In addition, based on variation of the soil resistivity, a sensitivity study is carried out. The paper is relevant as a foundation for further research on the area, fostering the execution of impulsive and high frequency field trials, not often investigated in depth for this type of substations.
