Microstrip Antennas with Height Discontinuities for Wireless Power Transfer

A novel device for efficient wireless power transfer (WPT) is presented. The proposed WPT system utilizes modified microstrip antennas with height discontinuities (MAHDs) to improve the power transfer. The resultant structure is similar to an inductive WPT design in operation providing a good transmission efficiency while the structure is compact and easy to fabricate. The proposed WPT device does not need any input/output interfaces that most inductive WPT systems require.
