Implementation of a Car Number Plate Recognition-based Automated Parking System for Malls

The objective of this study is to introduce a novel car number plate recognition-based automated parking system for malls, aimed at streamlining the parking process for both customers and parking management. The proposed system comprises a state-of-the-art High-Resolution camera installed at both entry and exit gates, capturing the number plate and recording critical details such as the date and time of entry, number plate number, and a photograph of the person occupying the driver's seat, ensuring enhanced security protocols. The system further scans the color of the number plate to differentiate between taxis and standard vehicles, facilitating quicker parking allotment. Upon entry, the system provides customers with a receipt and assigns a vacant parking slot, automatically. If the system recognizes that the vehicle is a taxi, it allocates a slot closer to the exit gate for swift egress. Upon returning to exit the parking lot, the system rechecks the number plate and automatically calculates the fare from the time of entry. The fare is displayed in both voice and digital formats, and customers can make payments through debit card, credit card, or cash via voice command. In case of an emergency, customers can seek immediate assistance by connecting to the security office through the machine. Furthermore, security personnel can bypass the payment process and gain entry or exit access with a confidential pin. The proposed system eliminates the need for manual ticketing and parking management, minimizing human error and ensuring a more efficient and secure parking experience for customers. Experimental results confirm that the proposed system significantly enhances the parking process, contributing to a more positive customer experience.
