Comparative Electromagnetic Modeling of Typical Antenna Transmission/Reception Scenarios Using Method of Moments and Finite Element Method

Using a typical transmission/reception communication scenario with two Vivaldi antennas, we describe the modeling differences and assess the performance differences between the finite element method (FEM) and the method of moments (MoM) employed in widely used renowned commercial software for electromagnetic (EM) analysis. We point out the proper choices for the initial modeling, refinement and post-processing, and we show a comparison of the results obtained by the two methods. We also evaluate the accuracy and computational efficiency of both methods by comparing the simulation results with measurements.
