The Analysis of the Most Appropriate Wind Speed Distribution Models for the Locations in Libya

In the paper, a thorough study of wind speed using obtained measurement data from four locations in Libya (Murzuq, Sabha, Tripoli, and Tarhuna) has been conducted. They are represented with Weibull, Gamma, Logistic, and Lognormal distribution functions, and validated with two goodness-of-fit tests. Opposite to the best practice to consider one or more years of aggregated data, the analysis is done using monthly and seasonal data, as more wind power variations are expected in shorter intervals. It showed that the Weibull distribution has the best fitting, i.e., that it may be the best choice in 64.6% of the months, the Gamma distribution in 27.1%, the Logistic one in 8.3%, and the Lognormal in none. It indicates the direction of future authors´ work in determining a more effective distribution function as a modified Weibull or a hybrid one.
