Improvement of education in the field of marine engineering at the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor

This paper aims to highlight the improvement of practical education in the field of marine engineering at the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor, University of Montenegro. The paper presents a simulation and experimental study of the starting characteristics of an asynchronous machine under direct starting. The influence of different types of ship auxiliary machines on the starting characteristics of the asynchronous machine was examined under different types of characteristics, such as gravitational, fan, linear, etc. Simulations were conducted using the MATLAB/Simulink software package. Experimental validation was carried out in the laboratory of electrical engineering at the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor, using the modular test bench Lucas Nulle Servo Drive (LNSD). This approach to laboratory exercises through simulation and experimental testing enables students to acquire knowledge about the influence of different types of loads on the output characteristics of the asynchronous machine. This is significant for the education process of future seafarers as it links the fields of electrical engineering and marine engineering, which are of great importance for the ship’s electrical power complex.
