FPGA Digital Circuit for actuator and sensor FDI of DC Motor with an amplifier

An important topic in numerous electrical drives is the reliability of sensors and actuators. In this paper, the usage of the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) digital circuit for FDI (Fault detection and isolation) of the additive actuator and sensor DC Motor faults using the Parity relation approach (PRA) is presented. PRA is utilized to acquire crucial information about the observed system and to generate residuals. Afterward, an FPGA chip that can isolate faults based on the developed Structure matrix and generated residuals is designed. Thus, following the structure matrix, each residual can answer to a defined subset of faults and stands insensitive to the others. The presented method was successfully applied to a laboratory system and can be implemented for students training in FDI.
